Aliza Hochman Bloom Joins Northeastern as Assistant Professor of Law

4.24.23 —Northeastern Law is pleased to announce that Aliza Hochman Bloom, who studies race in the Fourth Amendment and criminal sentencing reforms, will join the Northeastern community on July 1, 2023, as assistant professor of law. Hochman Bloom is currently a faculty fellow at New England Law | Boston, where she teaches criminal law, criminal advocacy and legal ethics. She was previously a visiting scholar at Boston University School of Law, supervising students in the criminal law clinic.

“We are delighted to welcome Professor Hochman Bloom to the law school,” said Dean James Hackney. “Her cutting-edge research and scholarship, particularly exploring Fourth and Fifth Amendment questions and the complexities within federal criminal sentencing, will no doubt spark discourse and ideas about how we can confront and reform the racial disparities that plague our justice system.”

Prior to joining the legal academy, Hochman Bloom worked as an assistant federal public defender in the Middle District of Florida. A former clerk to Judge Charles R. Wilson of the US Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit and Judge Charlene Honeywell of the Middle District of Florida, Hochman Bloom was also a litigation associate at the law firm Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton. She earned her BA from Yale University and her JD from Columbia University School of Law.

“I am thrilled to join Northeastern’s dynamic and thriving faculty and excellent students,” said Hochman Bloom. The law school’s commitment to public interest and equity are deeply compelling and I look forward to making a meaningful contribution.”
