Brian Carlisle Joins Northeastern Law as  Dean of Students and Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs

07.06.22 —Northeastern Law is pleased to announce that Brian Carlisle has been appointed dean of students and assistant dean for academic affairs, effective July 18. Carlisle most recently served as vice president and dean of students for LaGrange College. Prior to that, he served as vice president for student Affairs at Pitzer College.

“We are delighted to welcome Brian Carlisle to our team,” said Dean James Hackney. “His experience in higher education and his passion for social justice and for a meaningful student experience are a perfect fit with our community.”

A native of the Mobile, Alabama, area, Carlisle earned his bachelor’s degree in applied mathematics and his master’s in higher education administration from The University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa, and his JD from Southwestern Law School in Los Angeles. Early in his career, Carlisle served as a mathematics professor at Central Alabama Community College in Childersburg, then transitioned when he became assistant dean of students and later associate dean of students at UCLA. He went on to serve in similar positions at the San Francisco Art Institute and the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Carlisle was the inaugural winner of the namesake Brian A. Carlisle Leadership and Strategic Planning Award at Pitzer College and the recipient of the Ron Statz Award for Student Advocacy and the Roma Hoff Outstanding Advisor of the Year award, both at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. He is also an advocate for foster care and has served as vice chair of the board of directors of RaiseAChild in Los Angeles and is a volunteer with a variety of foster care organizations and humane societies.
