This workshop explores how to prepare students across disciplines to engage with organizational clients in ways that are culturally appropriate, trauma- informed, and grounded in community-defined needs. We will reflect on how students can build trust, navigate cultural difference with humility and center client agency in their work. The workshop challenges dominant development and service models, advocating for localized, participatory approaches over top-down interventions. We offer a framework for training students to enter unfamiliar communities not as experts, but as active learners and collaborators practicing sustained allyship.
