SUMMARY:From Jade Trees to Justice: Celebrating Professor Margaret Woo
DESCRIPTION:Join us in celebrating Professor Margaret Y.K. Woo’s transition to emerita status and her forthcoming memoir\, The City of Jade Trees\, an eloquent chronicle of four generations of her family whose lives intertwine with pivotal moments in U.S. immigration and Chinese American history. A recognized authority on both the Anglo-American and Chinese socialist legal systems\, Professor Woo’s scholarship and dedication to teaching have shaped generations of students and left an indelible mark on Northeastern Law. \nA teacher of remarkable dedication\, Professor Woo brought the same depth of humanity to her students in Civil Procedure\, Administrative Law and Comparative Law that she brings to the page — helping them see the law not as abstract doctrine\, but as a living force in real people’s lives. As she steps into emerita status\, she will remain connected to Northeastern through part-time teaching and research as a senior fellow with the law school’s Center for Global Law and Justice. She is also working on her next book\, The Evolving State of American Procedural Exceptionalism\, with Scott Dodson of UC San Francisco\, which will be published by Edward Elgar in 2027. \nDean James R. Hackney will serve as emcee.
