Bio
Ellen Farwell is associate general counsel at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, where she focuses on transactional matters and the tax-exempt status of the Institute. She advises on charitable giving, novel domestic and international transactions with other healthcare organizations, and employee compensation and benefits. In addition, she serves as counsel to the Institute Ethics Advisory Committee and numerous committees of the Board of Trustees, including the Compensation and Conflicts of Interest Oversight Committees.
Prior to joining Dana-Farber, Professor Farwell was a tax attorney at Nutter McClennen & Fish. During law school, she served as editor-in-chief of the Boston College Law School Third World Law Journal. Before law school she worked as a university administrator and rowing coach at Brandeis University and taught English as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Mozambique. Ellen’s community involvement includes serving on the Board of Directors of Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts and having served as the president of the Board of Trustees of the Women’s Bar Foundation of Massachusetts. Ellen lives in Newton with her husband and two spirited children.
