Jamy Buchanan Madeja is the founding attorney of Buchanan & Associates, a 25 years young boutique environmental, land use law and government relations practice on Beacon Hill in Boston, Massachusetts. Public policy and permitting of environmental and land use issues are the sweet spot of her practice, with special expertise in waterfront Public Trust Rights, “wetlands” protections and contaminated real estate issues. She testifies frequently at the Massachusetts Legislature on these topics and other environmental law topics. Her clients range from individuals and neighborhood associations to multi-national corporations. Professor Madeja has been repeatedly honored by her environmental colleagues as a “Super Lawyer” as well as being awarded the “Top 50 Women Lawyers in Massachusetts.” Prior to founding Buchanan & Associates,  Professor Madeja served as Massachusetts Governor William F. Weld’s General Counsel of the Executive Office of Environmental Affairs. She began her law career in 1988 as a lawyer at Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky & Popeo, after graduating from UC Berkeley School of Law. Her undergraduate degree is from Yale College, ’83.  Prior to putting herself through law school, she worked in Municipal Finance. Teaching law students at Northeastern School of Law and at Boston College School of Law is among her greatest pleasures, to see students rising to the challenge of learning how to use law for the greater good and discussing just what that means. She is a resident of Rockport, Massachusetts, the proud mother of two sons and a devotee of ocean-based relaxation.
