Bio

Mark Martinez is a housing attorney at the Massachusetts Law Reform Institute, where he advocates for tenants and works on housing policy and legislative issues affecting low-income communities. Prior to joining MLRI, Mark served for three years as Legal Counsel and Budget Director to Massachusetts State Senator Patricia D. Jehlen, working on legislation and policy involving housing, labor, criminal legal reform, and the environment. A graduate of Northeastern University School of Law, where he earned concentrations in Law and Economic Policy and Poverty Law and Economic Justice, Mark’s work combines direct legal advocacy, legislative advocacy, coalition building, and community organizing. His practice is grounded in community lawyering, partnering with clients, tenant organizations, and community groups to identify systemic barriers, develop advocacy strategies, and advance community-driven solutions. Drawing on his experience as both a practicing attorney and former State House staffer, Mark brings a practical perspective to the legislative process and the role lawyers can play in supporting community-led movements for systemic change.
