Professor Alexandra J. Roberts is quoted in The Athletic on the trademark dispute between Bears quarterback Caleb Williams and NBA Hall of Famer George Gervin over the “Iceman” nickname. “The USPTO won’t grant registration of a mark that comprises the name or nickname of another living person without their consent,” Roberts noted — adding that the existence of multiple competing claims could ultimately allow all three trademark applicants to coexist.
