Judge Impounds Jury List in Karen Read Trial, Cites Risk of ‘Irreparable Injury’

Professor Daniel Medwed says Karen Read’s motion to dismiss could influence prosecutors regardless of the judge’s ruling: “The information contained in it may give the DA’s office pause about the viability of the second-degree murder charge in another trial. In other words, prosecutors may be asking: If we decide to retry Karen Read, should we only advance the reckless homicide theory [included in the manslaughter count]? Did we reach too far with murder 2?”
