3.30.21 — Northeastern University School of Law is ranked No. 5 for health care law in U.S. News & World Report’s 2022 rankings, released today. The law school was previously ranked No. 11 in the 2021 rankings.
“We are absolutely thrilled to receive this recognition from our health law peers,” said Professor Wendy Parmet, an internationally recognized expert in health law who leads Northeastern Law’s Center for Health Policy and Law. “Health law is central to what we do at Northeastern. We recognize that the field is interdisciplinary, wide in its scope and closely connected to social justice. Our Center for Health Policy and Law brings together law faculty and students from across the university to study, debate and work on issues from the pricing of pharmaceuticals to the role of structural racism in creating health disparities. From COVID to opioids. The connection between these disparate subjects is our shared mission to use law to improve the health of individuals and communities.”
In addition to its U.S. News ranking, Northeastern Law’s health law program was recognized with an A+ grade in the 2020 “back to school” issue of preLaw magazine. The law school’s Center for Health Policy and Law (CHPL) is a nationally recognized hub for dynamic, interdisciplinary approaches to combatting public health challenges. In addition to offering a broad curriculum in health and public health law, CHPL hosts conferences, lectures, colloquia, events and workshops that introduce students to career opportunities in the growing field of health law and policy. The school also offers a JD x Certificate in Health Law and Policy, a Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Compliance, and an LLM with concentration in Health Policy and Law, as well as two dual-degree JD/MPH programs, with Northeastern’s Bouvé College of Health Sciences and Tufts University School of Medicine.
CHPL recently received a $500,000 grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to launch Salus Populi: Educating the Judiciary About the Social Determinants of Health. The training program for judges and law clerks emphasizes how legal decisions can affect health. In June 2021, the law school will co-host the national ASLME Health Law Professors Conference, bringing the nation’s most forward-thinking health law experts together.
