Salus Populi Judicial Education Program Receives $300,000 Grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation
11.22.2024 – Northeastern Law’s Center for Health Policy and Law (CHPL), in collaboration with Northeastern University Bouvé College of Health Sciences’ Institute for Health Equity and Social Justice Research, has been awarded a supplemental $300,000 grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation (WFFK) to continue to support and expand upon Salus Populi, the nation’s first education program to train judges and lawyers about the social determinants of health and their relationship to law. This one-year funding builds upon WFFK’s previous $600,000 grant in 2022; it will allow Salus Populi to expand the program’s reach, including offering courses specifically for lawyers who appear before courts to enable them to better understand the social determinants of health and its impact on their clients.
“This award from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation in addition to its past generous support of Salus Populi speaks to the critical role that the social determinants of health plays in the lives of individuals and families who come before a court and the necessity for judges and lawyers to be educated on its impact,” said Professor Wendy E. Parmet, CHPL faculty director and co-principal investigator of Salus Populi.
