02.24.21 — The Honorable Donald Cabell ’91, US Magistrate Judge, United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, will deliver the keynote address at the 2021 Reunion Celebration on, October 23, as we honor the classes of the 1950s, ’76, ’81, ’86, ’91, ’96, ’01, 2006, ’11 and ’16.

Donald L. Cabell ’91 is a US Magistrate Judge sitting in the US District Court for the District of Massachusetts. After earning his BA from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and JD from Northeastern Law, he spent his first four years in private practice with firms where he had completed co-ops. He first joined the litigation department of Hale and Dorr, now known as Wilmer Hale, where he focused on commercial and securities matters. He left after two years for Peckham Lobel Casey Prince and Tye, now known as Prince Lobel and Tye, where he worked on both civil and criminal matters. Craving the courtroom experience, he joined the Boston office of the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts in 1995 and spent the next 17 years prosecuting all types of felony offenses, concentrating for the last several of those years on national security and terrorism matters. In 2012, he was selected to serve as the U Department of Justice’s (DOJ) legal attaché at the American Embassy in Paris, France, where he was responsible for representing the interests of DOJ’s Criminal Division in France and Monaco. He returned to the US in 2014 and rejoined the US Attorney’s Office as part of the team prosecuting the Boston Marathon bombing case. He was subsequently selected to serve as a magistrate judge in late 2014 and assumed his position in January 2015.

Judge Cabell has been married since 1992 to fellow law school classmate Amy Hudspeth Cabell ’91. They are the proud parents of three wonderful children, none of whom has any desire to ever practice law.
