Who Gets a Clean Slate? Northeastern Research Reveals Gaps in California’s Expungement System

Professor Sarah Lageson is featured in Northeastern Global News on new research revealing racial and geographic disparities in California’s criminal record expungement system. The research, conducted through an inaugural Mills Institute Innovation Lab fellowship, found that white students with felony-level cases were held in custody for a median 300 days, compared to 480 days for Black, Asian and Latino students in the same offense category.
