03.30.20 — Morgan Wilson ’17 has joined Northeastern Law’s Domestic Violence Institute (DVI) as a lawyering fellow and director of the Legal Assistance to Victims program (LAV), a unique interdisciplinary collaboration with Casa Myrna, the largest domestic violence advocacy organization in Boston. Through funding from the US Department of Justice’s Office for Violence Against Women, the LAV project seeks to connect individuals impacted by domestic violence with legal services, at those places they may first turn to for help. DVI/LAV team members work in the community to provide direct advocacy and focused community education, with the goal of helping individuals identify options to move toward breaking the cycle of violence and increasing their capacity for self-determination. Wilson will also assist with the law school’s Domestic Violence Clinic and general DVI operations.

In addition to holding a JD from Northeastern Law, Wilson holds a BA from Boston College and an LLM from the School of Oriental and African Studies in London, from which she graduated with honors and won the Best Overall LLM Award for the law school. Her research examined the relationship between carceral capitalism, race and policing in the United States. She is a prolific scholar and is currently working on a book.

Wilson previously served with the US Department of Justice (DOJ) in Washington, DC, as the director of scheduling and advance for Attorney General Eric H. Holder, Jr., working collaboratively with local, state, national and international organizations and government entities to successfully develop interagency partnerships. She had the unique opportunity to travel nationally and internationally with the DOJ, where she saw firsthand how sentencing disparities, lack of constitutional and civil protections coupled with access to justice issues had a disparate impact on Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC), LGBTQIA2S and low-income communities.

“I am excited to return to Northeastern as a legal fellow with the Domestic Violence Institute and to work with Professor Margo Lindauer,” said Wilson. “I was a student in Margo’s Domestic Violence Clinic and learned a great deal about holistic legal care and advocacy. I look forward to bringing my enthusiasm and experience to the DVI.”
