Public Health is Losing in Court: Amicus Briefs Are One Way We’re Fighting Back

In a new article for Harvard Law’s Petrie-Flom Center, Shannon Rempe, Wendy Parmet, Mehreen Butt, and Jami Crespo describe the Amicus Project, an initiative from the Center for Health Policy and Law and Public Health Law Watch to file friend-of-the-court briefs defending public health in the courts. The team’s amicus briefs in AAP v. Kennedy — challenging the federal overhaul of COVID-19 vaccine guidance and the childhood immunization schedule — have already shaped the case, with a federal judge citing their first brief as the only amicus referenced in his order denying the government’s motion to dismiss.
