Advanced Standing for Foreign-Trained Lawyers

The School of Law welcomes applications for the JD program from students who already hold a law degree from a law school outside the United States. Applicants may be eligible for advanced standing, which is determined on a case-by-case basis. For a list of law degrees that meet the foreign law degree requirement, please consult the chart maintained on the LSAC.org website.

To apply to the Advanced Standing for Foreign-Trained Lawyers JD program, submit the following:

  • Application for foreign-trained lawyers by March 1
  • Résumé
  • Personal statement
  • Current CAS report that includes one letter of recommendation, all required transcripts (including your final law school transcript), and a current TOEFL or IELTS score (if your foreign degree was not conducted in English)

The LSAT is not required for admission with advanced standing, but if you have an LSAT score, it will also appear in your CAS report.

You may also submit an optional essay and/or addendum.
