Jail-to-Jobs Pipeline Project Receives $30,000 Grant from Cummings Foundation
09.25.2024 – Northeastern Law’s Center for Law, Equity and Race (CLEAR) and Criminal Justice Task Force (CJTF) have received a $30,000 grant from the Cummings Foundation to support CJTF’s Jail-to-Jobs Pipeline Project, a collaboration between CLEAR and Northeastern University’s Corrections and Reentry Lab. The funding will be distributed and managed by the Massachusetts Bar Foundation.
In Massachusetts, 75 percent of people who leave prison and jail return within five years. At the same time, businesses and corporations face a labor shortage. The Jail-to-Jobs Project seeks to match employers who need workers with those returning who need jobs. CJTF’s Jail-to-Jobs Pipeline Project aims to build a robust structure that ensures justice-involved individuals have access to sustainable employment and career development opportunities, with the goal of reducing recidivism across the commonwealth.
The Cummings Foundation was founded in 1986 by Joyce and Bill Cummings of Winchester, Massachusetts, to give back in the Greater Boston areas where their business, Cummings Properties, operated; today, the Cummings Foundation annually awards at least $50 million in the human services, healthcare, social justice and education sectors. This grant was made at the recommendation of the Honorable Margot Botsford ’73, a trustee of the Cummings Foundation.
