Day Appointed Assistant Teaching Professor at Northeastern Law

06.22.26 — Sarah Lee Day ’21, a public interest lawyer whose career has centered on reproductive rights, bodily autonomy and social justice, has been appointed an assistant teaching professor at Northeastern University School of Law. Since 2023, she has served as a visiting assistant professor in the school’s Legal Skills in Social Context (LSSC) program.

“Sarah Lee is, in many ways, a product of what we aspire to be. A Northeastern Law graduate who went on to do meaningful reproductive rights work in policy and litigation, she returned to us with a practitioner’s instincts and a teacher’s core values. We have been fortunate to have her as a visitor and are thrilled she is now a member of the faculty,” said Dean James Hackney.

As a student at Northeastern Law, Day was received the prestigious Public Interest Law Scholarship. Her co-ops included human rights legal advocacy with the Due Diligence Project, reproductive rights impact litigation with the Lawyering Project and reproductive rights policy work with NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts.

Prior to joining Northeastern as a visiting faculty member, Day served as a justice catalyst fellow at Reproductive Equity Now, where she focused on legal policy work on abortion and bodily autonomy, drafted continuing education courses supporting contraceptive access and consulted with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and the White House Gender Policy Council. She also taught at Tufts University Experimental College, where her courses examine the right to abortion, law as social control, and the transformative powers of law.

Day holds a BFA from Cornish College of the Arts, a BS in psychology from Arizona State University and an MA in social justice and human rights from Arizona State University.

“Returning to Northeastern as faculty has felt like the fulfillment of a dream: Northeastern Law shaped me as a lawyer, and now I get to help mentor the next generation. I’m thrilled to continue teaching in the Legal Skills in Social Context program and guiding 1L students as they connect legal writing to the social justice work that drew so many of them to law and to Northeastern in the first place.”
