Civic Tech in Action: Empowering Engagement Through Innovation

Engage with Legislative Leaders through MAPLE, a NuLawLab Collaboration

Join the Massachusetts Platform for Legislative Engagement (MAPLE) at the Massachusetts State House on October 1, 2025, from 12 to 1:30 pm to explore how digital tools can better connect lawmakers with the perspectives, insights and priorities of their constituents. By making it easier for people to participate and easier for legislators to listen, we can improve the quality of the laws that shape our lives – and build a more responsive, more collaborative democracy in the process. The “Civic Tech in Action: Empowering Engagement through Innovation” will feature panelists and speakers spotlighting Massachusetts’ opportunity to join the forefront of a national movement towards tech-enabled civic renewal. Hear from a dynamic panel of leaders and innovators working at the intersection of tech, government and community organizing—followed by a live demo of MAPLE’s new website features—free for everyone to use and designed to make legislative engagement more accessible and impactful.

MAPLE, a web-based tool that allows Massachusetts residents and organizations to easily submit testimony on pending state legislation on Beacon Hill, is a 501c3 nonprofit project of Partners in Democracy-Education. MAPLE was incubated by Northeastern Law’s NuLawLab and built by volunteer developers affiliated with Code for Boston, Matt Victor and Nathan Sanders. LEADS is a 501c3 nonprofit operating the Leadership Development program and LEADS Fellowship.

“Now more than ever we need to expand the number of people actively participating in self-government. MAPLE is a great example of leveraging technology to do exactly that,” said Dan Jackson ’97, executive director of NuLawLab.
