Launch of the Massachusetts Platform for Legislative Engagement (MAPLE)

Join Us for the Launch of the
Massachusetts Platform for Legislative Engagement (MAPLE)

A new digital tool to connect Massachusetts residents to one another, and to our legislators.

Thursday, July 20, 2023
6 to 7 pm
Northeastern University School of Law
65 Forsyth Street, 230 Dockser Hall
Boston, Massachusetts

MAPLE aims to transform the act and impact of legislative testimony by making it easy to submit online comments to legislative committees while simultaneously generating an open-source web archive of submitted testimony from our neighbors. By removing significant barriers to engaging with the legislative process and ensuring that we all can influence public policy, MAPLE charts a path forward for using technology to strengthen, not erode, our democracy.

MAPLE is the work of a group of volunteer technologists at Code for Boston and has been incubated by Northeastern University School of Law’s NuLawLab. We are a nonpartisan, open source and nonprofit (501c3) project operating under Open Collective and supported by Partners in Democracy.

This launch event will focus on MAPLE’s potential to transform youth engagement in civic processes, such as state policy development. The event is open to the public, particularly individuals and organizations focused on civic capacity building among student and youth audiences. During the launch event, we will hear from Massachusetts leaders in youth empowerment and engagement, as well as from the dedicated folks who built MAPLE. All attendees will have the opportunity to learn how to use MAPLE to amplify their voice on key issues and to transmit their perspectives, insights and passions about those issues to the legislature.
