Drawing on her new book Predicted: How AI is Restructuring Social Life, Mona Sloane will discuss how AI functions as a new form of social infrastructure—one that embeds prediction as a guiding principle of social organization through what she calls the “prediction paradigm.” Rather than treating AI’s impacts as downstream effects of engineering design, she traces how AI systems both arise from and reorganize social practices, institutional logics, and professional authority. Her talk advances a sociology of AI that demystifies the technology and centers qualitative inquiry, institutional analysis, and public engagement, opening space for collective deliberation about alternative futures.
