Democracy is in retreat at home and abroad, and our institutions have not kept pace with the tools now available to us. In Reboot: AI and the Race to Save Democracy, Professor Beth Simone Noveck makes the case that artificial intelligence, often described as a threat to democratic governance, can instead be deliberately designed and governed to strengthen it. Drawing on decades of experience building technology inside government, from the White House to 10 Downing Street, Noveck takes readers inside real-world efforts already under way, from European cities engaging residents in policymaking to U.S. states transforming public service delivery and offers a practical playbook for using AI to help institutions listen more closely, decide more wisely, and act more effectively.
