Maya Efrati

Bio

Professor Maya Efrati serves as director of legislation and congressional affairs at the Government Accountability Project’s. In her role, Professor Efrati leads the organization’s federal legislative advocacy work. She works directly with internal leadership and colleagues, national and longstanding coalition partners, legislative staff on the Hill including Member, committee, and leadership offices and others, to defend and advance whistleblower rights.

Professor Efrati is a seasoned legislative advocate with a diverse, nonprofit-centered and mission-driven work experience, and both a legal and quantitative educational background. She previously served as public policy counsel at the Brennan Center for Justice, where her work focused on voting rights, criminal justice reform, elections and good governance reforms. She also previously served in various legislative, advocacy, legal analysis and research capacities with the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, National Whistleblower Center (where she led the organization’s legislative advocacy work), Represent.Us, FairVote, Center for American Progress and the Michigan Innocence Clinic (where she investigated and represented incarcerated individuals who were innocent). Additionally, before completing her graduate degrees, Professor Efrati worked for a large congressional campaign in California (Congressman Brad Sherman), AFSCME District Council 36 and the Peres Center for Peace, among others.

Professor Efrati received her Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan Law School, where she received a public interest fellowship from the John Paul Stevens Foundation, and her Master of Public Policy from the University of Michigan Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy in 2016.  She received her Bachelor of Arts in Government from Reichman University in 2011.
