Bio
Professor Annery Miranda is an immigrant's rights attorney at Greater Boston Legal Services (GBLS). Her areas of expertise include humanitarian forms of immigration relief (such as asylum, withholding of removal and protection under the Convention Against Torture), the intersection of social work and law and, more generally, removal defense. Miranda regularly represents noncitizens who have fled persecution and torture in their claims before the Executive Office of Immigration Review and in the Asylum Office. Miranda is passionate about lawyering that occurs in collaboration with the communities her clients are connected to and working in an interdisciplinary manner. Her interests in societal experiences of marginalization and vulnerability have led her to work in a wide array of areas including defending the rights of low wage workers, students facing school discipline, family homelessness and public benefits. Prior to becoming an attorney, Miranda trained as a social worker focused on the mental health of Latino/a/x communities.
