Bio
Ingrid Nava teaches Representing Spanish-Speaking Clients at Northeastern. She is associate general counsel for SEIU Local 32BJ, the largest labor union for property services workers in the country, representing approximately 175,000 janitors, security officers and other commercial and residential building service workers. In that capacity she counsels organizing campaigns, represents the union in both affirmative and defensive litigation, negotiates contracts and drafts contract language, represents individual union members in arbitration, and participates in all legal aspects of various legislative policy initiatives that the union is involved in.
Professor Nava is on the board of the AFL-CIO Union Lawyers Alliance and the board of directors of the Peggy Browning Fund. She was also co-founder of Justice at Work (jatwork.org), a legal services nonprofit organization serving immigrant worker centers in Massachusetts. She previously worked as an employment lawyer at Greater Boston Legal Services, where she represented low-wage and immigrant workers and drafted a precursor to the MA Earned Sick Time Law. Prior to law school, she was an organizer for SEIU.
