Mass. Gig Union Approval Tees up First-Of-Its-Kind Campaign
Professor Ryan Quinn is quoted in Law360 on the landmark certification of Massachusetts’ App Drivers Union — the country’s first bargaining unit for rideshare drivers and the biggest new unit in more than 80 years. Quinn noted that while a legal challenge from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce or similar employer group is possible, Massachusetts’ structure may fare better than past efforts because its drafters gave the state a more active role in the framework. “The NLRA has not served this fast-growing sector of the workforce,” Quinn said. “I think this is an area where states are going to be more free to try to regulate employment.”
