Northeastern is No. 1 for Practical Training

04.21.2026 —Northeastern University School of Law is in the No. 1 spot for practical training in preLaw magazine’s 2026 rankings, affirming the school’s national leadership in experiential legal education. The “Best law schools for practical training” ranking is based on experiential learning opportunities, with data from the American Bar Association and individual schools. Northeastern Law also topped the list in 2025.

“This recognition reflects what Northeastern Law knows to be true: that great lawyers are made through experience, not just study,” said Dean James Hackney. “From our unrivaled co-op program to our clinics to Legal Skills in Social Context, practical training isn’t just a feature of our curriculum, it’s the foundation.”

Northeastern law students complete three full-time legal work experiences through the school’s signature Cooperative Legal Education Program. With more than 1,000 co-op employers and placements completed in 55 countries, Northeastern Law ensures students graduate with substantial real-world experience.
