Northeastern Law Faculty and Staff Speak at 2024 SALT Teaching Conference
09.17.2024 – Northeastern Law faculty and staff will share their expertise with peers from across the country at the Society of American Law Teachers (SALT) 2024 Teaching Conference, which will be held September 20–21, 2024. Hosted by Boston University School of Law, the theme for this year’s conference is “We Won’t Back Down: Standing Together for Transformative Legal Education.” SALT is a community of progressive law teachers, law school administrators, librarians, academic support experts, students and affiliates.
As part of the program, Northeastern Law will host a reception at Northeastern University’s Alumni Center on Friday, September 21, to provide an opportunity for conference attendees to network and connect with colleagues.
“The SALT Teaching Conference is a truly inspiring event,” said Professor Margaret Hahn DuPont, program director of Northeastern Law’s Legal Skills in Social Context program. “It’s so affirming to be in community with faculty and advocates from around the country who share our commitment to social justice.”

The ARC (Application and Rule Construction) Toward Justice (“ARC”) — Why IRAC has things backwards and how that reinforces the legal status quo.
Professors Jeremy Paul and Rebecca Chapman will present on how to teach legal reasoning so that students will be better equipped to engage in creative problem-solving in the pursuit of social justice.

Understanding the Role of Law for Social Transformation through Reading Groups
Deborah Jackson, managing director of Northeastern Law’s Center for Law, Equity and Race (CLEAR), will talk about the social justice reading group she is organizing this fall at the law school.

Teaching for Transformative Change: One-Pagers and Advocacy
Professor Sarah Lee Day will discuss teaching students social justice advocacy through legislative one-pagers.
Professor Lua Kamál Yuille, Northeastern Law’s associate dean for research and interdisciplinary education, will participate in a teaching panel as part of the SALT Junior Faculty Development Workshop, which will be held at BU Law on September 19.
