03.11.2025 – A powerhouse team of third-year Northeastern Law students—Marcus Bockhorst ’25, William Czerwinski ’25 and Anjika Pai ’25—took first place at the prestigious Kaufman Securities Law Moot Court Competition, held March 28–30 at Fordham University School of Law in New York City.

Competing against 23 teams from across the country, the Northeastern students argued a complex problem centered on statutory standing and the application of federal laws to extraterritorial claims. The Kaufman Competition, named in honor of Judge Irving R. Kaufman, a longtime judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, is one of the nation’s premier events for aspiring securities law advocates. It brings together top law students to argue before esteemed panels that have included U.S. Supreme Court justices, federal appellate judges and commissioners of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

“It was an incredible honor to represent Northeastern Law on the national stage, particularly in the final round before federal judges from the Second Circuit Court of Appeals and the Southern District of New York,” said the team in a joint statement. “We’re especially grateful to adjunct professors Eric Forni, Eric Christofferson and Miranda Hooker for their invaluable guidance during our practice rounds. We’d also like to thank the Boston office of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which generously hosted a practice round—a connection made possible through Marcus’s part-time position with the SEC. It was a powerful reminder of how Northeastern’s commitment to experiential learning strengthens both our skills and our networks.”
