PreLaw Magazine4.17.20 —  In recognition of its national leadership in experiential learning, Northeastern University School of Law has been ranked No. 1 for practical training by The National Jurist/preLaw. This is the sixth year in a row that Northeastern has held the No. 1 spot.

Northeastern law students complete 1,500 hours of full-time, supervised work through the school’s signature Cooperative Legal Education Program. The co-op program includes 1,500 employers worldwide; to date, students have completed co-ops in 71 countries.

The rankings are based on experiential learning opportunities, with data from the American Bar Association and individual schools.

The National Jurist/preLaw notes that Northeastern is No. 1 for practical training because “of its Cooperative Legal Education Program — also known as co-op.”

In its rankings article, the magazine extensively quotes William “Mo” Cowan ’94, former US Senator representing Massachusetts and now president of global government affairs and policy for General Electric. “Whether working in a courtroom under the supervision of a judge or side by side with clients on civil litigation and corporate matters, I treasured my co-op time for making me the leader and lawyer I am today,” he said.
