Sebastien Philemon ’24 Awarded Ropes & Gray Diversity Scholarship

12.13.22 — Sebastien Philemon ’24 has been selected as the first Northeastern Law student to be awarded the prestigious Roscoe Trimmier Jr. Diversity Scholarship by Ropes & Gray.  The scholarship was established in 2015 to honor the memory of Roscoe Trimmier Jr. — Ropes & Gray’s first Black partner and a pioneer in the law firm’s diversity and inclusion efforts. As one of 12 Trimmier scholars for 2023, Philemon will receive a $25,000 scholarship toward his legal education.

“I feel both extremely honored and blessed to receive this opportunity from Ropes & Gray,” said Philemon, who will co-op this summer in firm’s Boston headquarters as a summer associate. “I have always been passionate about increasing opportunities for BIPOC individuals in the legal industry and I look forward to making a greater impact with my fellow scholarship recipients.”

Philemon serves as secretary of Northeastern Law’s Black Law Students Association and is a member of the First-Generation Law Association. He is currently on co-op with the Honorable Kimberly S. Budd at the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court. His previous co-ops include the Massachusetts Department of Labor Relations and Nutter, McClennen & Fish. Prior to law school, Philemon was a corporate paralegal at Ropes & Gray. His volunteer work includes mentoring students through Colby Cares About Kids. He graduated from Colby College with a BA in government and French studies.
