Merissa Spaulding ’25 Awarded MBLA’s Fletcher “Flash” Wiley Scholarship for Leadership and Service

04.22.25—The Massachusetts Black Lawyers Association (MBLA) Fletcher “Flash” Wiley Scholarship has been awarded to Merissa Spaulding ’25. The MBLA singled out Spaulding as a “remarkable student leader and highly engaged” member of the Northeastern Law community. Wiley was a prominent Boston lawyer, civic leader, activist and past MBLA president who passed away in February 2025. The scholarship is awarded to law students who exemplify Wiley’s commitment to academic and professional excellence, diversity and inclusion. The award supports students who, like Wiley, demonstrate a dedication to lifting others as they climb.
“To be recognized in the name of Past President Wiley is both humbling and deeply motivating. His life reminds us that success is not only measured by personal milestones, but by how we use our platform to create space for others to rise. This award strengthens my resolve to carry that legacy forward as an advocate, a future attorney and someone committed to building a more just and inclusive environment within the legal profession,” said Spaulding at the awards ceremony held on April 11, 2025.
