Quisquella Addison Joins Northeastern Law’s LSSC Program as Assistant Teaching Professor

05.2.22 — Northeastern Law is pleased to announce that Quisquella Addison will join the university on July 1, 2022, as an assistant teaching professor in the Legal Skills in Social Context program. Addison has experience in legal service, public service and public interest technology. Addison brings a passion for understanding identity and performs her work through a lens of equity, inclusion and belonging. Originally from Boston, she attended Boston Latin School and received her BA from Mount Holyoke College, where she designed her own major in ethnicity and identity formation. Her research focused on themes of race, ethnicity and identity within Latin American communities in the United States. She has dedicated her legal career to leveraging technology to amplify the reach of legal and social services and increase legal empowerment for under-resourced, underserved and marginalized communities.

“We are delighted that Professor Addison is bringing her knowledge and expertise to our law school community,” said Dean James Hackney. “Her insights about the struggles of unhoused people, survivors of domestic violence and low-income families will be invaluable to our students.”

Addison received her JD from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. While at Cardozo she was a Public Service Scholar and Charles H. Revson Public Interest Fellow. At Cardozo she volunteered with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Mediation Department and became a certified mediator. Throughout law school she maintained a connection to her political roots and volunteered for various local campaigns. Her experience working in state politics informed her decision to attend law school.

Addison went on to serve as an Equal Justice Works Americorps Legal Fellow working for LawHelpNY, a statewide legal information and referral service where she was responsible for recruiting and training law students to offer legal assistance online. She then joined the Legal Aid Society, where she worked with the Tenants’ Rights Coalition. She returned to LawHelpNY as program director. In this role, she worked collaboratively with the New York legal services community and law schools to use technology to help people find solutions to legal and social issues through online referrals, plain language resources and interactive court forms.

Returning to Massachusetts she served as project manager for the COVID Eviction Legal Help Project at the Massachusetts Law Reform Institute and as director of consulting at Just-Tech. Addison worked in collaboration with law professors, legal aid providers, community organizers and medical professionals to develop and deliver skills based training for attorneys and legal professionals to serve tenants facing eviction or poor housing conditions.

“I am excited about this opportunity to join the Northeastern Law faculty and embrace the school’s commitment to developing practical skills by integrating students into communities early in their law school careers and training law students to be client and community-centered,” said Addison. “I am particularly interested in joining the LSSC faculty because I believe the first year of law school — similar to the first year of legal practice — can define one’s view of the legal profession and the responsibilities of legal practitioners. At both of these times, students and attorneys have the opportunity to intentionally design their lives and careers to be healthy, holistic, purposeful and meaningful.”
