Sankalp Bhatnagar Awarded Bridges Fellowship by Northeastern’s Center for Design
05.31.23 — Sankalp Bhatnagar, a senior researcher with Northeastern Law’s NuLawLab, has been awarded a Bridges Fellowship by Northeastern University’s Center for Design (CfD). Based at the College of Arts, Media and Design (CAMD), CfD is Northeastern’s interdisciplinary design research center for exchanging knowledge and practices, shaping common tools and methods, and fostering new research lines. CfD fellowships are awarded to research projects that strategically connect scholars across different research areas and disciplines to make an impact in society and advance design knowledge.
Bhatnagar will use his fellowship to further the research project he has been advancing over the past year with NuLawLab and the Library Innovation Lab at Harvard Law, where he also holds a fellowship. He will lead a team of law students from Northeastern Law and Harvard Law School into the coming year to pilot and evaluate a workbook of hands-on exercises for studying landmark cases through the skills that law shares with design, through tutorials and workshops within law libraries.
“By giving old cases a new look, my work endeavors to explain how lawyers and judges design the world around us through law. Our goal is to introduce law students to the skills they need to practice law as its own form of design using actual cases where past judges and lawyers did the same,” said Bhatnagar. “I am thrilled to be awarded this fellowship because it will support me in materializing and evaluating our work reimagining case-based learning, building a bridge from the world of legal education to design research.”
“We are thrilled that Sankalp has chosen to continue to situate his creative work at Northeastern, delivering NuLawLab’s first formal collaboration with CfD,” said Dan Jackson ’97, executive director of NuLawLab.
