David Stein Joins Northeastern Law as Assistant Professor of Law and Computer Science

04.17.24 — Northeastern Law is pleased to announce that David Stein will join the Northeastern University community on July 1, 2024, as assistant professor of law and computer science within the School of Law and the Khoury College of Computer Sciences. Stein is currently the Frank J. Guarini Scholar of Global Law and Technology at the NYU School of Law, where he is also a fellow at the Information Law Institute and teaches a course on the regulation of global technologies. He studies the interplay between emerging technologies and legal institutions.

“We are delighted to welcome David Stein to the Northeastern community,” said Dean James Hackney. “His impressive research and teaching on global tech law, data security, privacy and analytics will enhance the work of our Center for Law, Information and Creativity and his engaging teaching style will play a key role in educating the next generation of lawyers about the intersection of law and technology.”

Stein’s research has appeared in venues such as the Wisconsin Law Review, the Journal of Spacecraft and RocketsSanta Clara High Tech Law Journal and the International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems. Before entering the academy, he spent a decade in the tech industry, where his work included roles as an early software engineer at Dropbox, director of product engineering at Braze and cybersecurity lead for Sidewalk Labs—Google’s smart city initiative. He is the named inventor on seven patented digital identity and database management technologies. Stein holds a JD from the NYU School of Law and an MEng and SB from MIT.
