Inequality in access to justice is at a global crisis point as many ordinary people can no longer afford court proceedings. Alternative solutions are crucial. Legal aid, pro bono services and technology-driven innovations, such as online dispute resolution platforms, offer more affordable and accessible ways to resolve disputes. Mediation and arbitration, with their cost-effectiveness, are vital components. These approaches can help bridge the justice gap. New Zealand, a country of 5 million, with a significant Indigenous population, provides an excellent case study of challenges and potential solutions.
