First Tyler Lawrence Peacemaker Award Goes to Nadia Eldemery ’24

06 01.23 — Tyler Lawrence, grandson of Northeastern Law friend and colleague Stan Lawrence, was killed while walking in Mattapan in January 2023. He was just 13 years old when his life was tragically cut short by horrific violence. Tyler was a student at Coakley Middle School and the apple of Stan’s eye as well as his late, beloved grandmother, Carol Lawrence, and his mother, Remy Lawrence. Those who knew Tyler describe him as “a boy who was going to have a big impact on the world,” “a force for good” and “a peacemaker who brought people together.”

To honor Tyler’s memory, Professor Richard Daynard and his wife, Carol, recently established theTyler Lawrence Memorial Peacemaker Award to support Northeastern Law students who carry on Tyler’s legacy.

This award will be given out annually in Tyler’s name to recognize and support Northeastern Law students who carry on his legacy through youth advocacy and/or community building work accomplished through experiential learning. This includes work that takes place on co-op or through extra-curricular activities. Nadia Eldemery ’24, who has dedicated her work to youth advocacy and plans to continue to devote her career to being an advocate for children after graduation, is the first recipient of the annual award.

“I’m incredibly honored to receive this award in Tyler's memory and to advocate for what he stood for,” said Eldemery. “I am grateful for the opportunity to use my degree to ensure every child gets to return home safe and will continue to work towards that goal with Tyler’s legacy beside me.”
