05.23.23 — Professor Katherine (Katie) Kraschel has been appointed chair of the board of Planned Parenthood of Southern New England (PPSNE), a non-profit organization that provides high quality health care, education and advocacy to advance equity and protect the fundamental right to sexual health and reproductive freedom for all. An expert on the intersections of reproduction, gender, bioethics and health policy, Krashel joins the Northeastern Law faculty on July 1 as assistant professor of law and health sciences. She has served on the board of PPSNE since June 2020 in a variety of roles, most recently as vice chair and chair of the board governance committee.

“I am honored to take on this role as we fight to further PPSNE’s critical work to provide high quality health care, education and advocacy to advance equity and protect the fundamental right to sexual health and reproductive freedom for all,”  said Krashel. “PPSNE has outstanding leadership and a board deeply dedicated to its mission, which makes serving as board chair a particularly gratifying privilege.

“My hope is that taking on this role concurrent with joining the faculty at Northeastern will create synergies to ground my academic work and teaching in the realities of providing reproductive health care and the challenges facing Planned Parenthood’s patient populations,” Krashel added. “I hope that I can also bring the creative energy I gain from being part of the community at Northeastern and its dedication to social justice to my work at Planned Parenthood.”
