Northeastern Law Earns Top National Recognition for Human Rights Law
09.11.26 — Northeastern University School of Law has once again been recognized as a national leader in human rights law. preLaw magazine named Northeastern to its 2026 Human Rights Law Honor Roll with an “A+” grade, marking the fourth consecutive year Northeastern has earned the top rating. This year’s honor roll includes just 13 schools nationwide at the A+ level
The recognition reflects the reach of Northeastern Law’s human rights curriculum and its Center for Global Law and Justice (CGLJ), which gives students direct, firsthand exposure to international human rights advocacy through participation in major global legal forums and advocacy.
In a joint statement, Professors Martha Davis and Zinaida Miller, CGLJ faculty co-directors, said, “We are thrilled to receive this recognition for our school’s commitment to human rights teaching, research and advocacy, This year we had a special focus on expanding the resources on the center’s Human Rights Resource Hub, sharing human rights information with advocates and activists worldwide who are responding to human rights violations in real time.”
CGLJ’s footprint is extensive. The Human Rights Resource Hub, one of the most heavily used gateways to international human rights law online, draws roughly 75,000 visits a month from advocates, courts and journalists in more than 119 countries. This year CGLJ was also accepted into the Association of Human Rights Institutes, a global network spanning more than 80 institutes in 35-plus countries, and its advocacy work has ranged from the Hague to Los Angeles — including a UN brief on U.S. water justice, an amicus brief in a landmark state climate case and a human-rights-focused report for the Los Angeles County Commission on Human Relations.
preLaw’s honor roll grades law schools on the breadth of their curricular offerings, weighting concentrations, clinics, centers, externships, journals, student groups and certificates. Northeastern Law’s placement in the top tier underscores a human rights program built on experiential learning — a hallmark of the school’s broader Cooperative Legal Education Program, which integrates full-time legal work experience directly into the JD curriculum.
