Academic Success
Academic Success
The Kemet Chapter has a strong tradition in providing resources for members to get the most out of their law school experience. Upper levels constantly support each other throughout their second and third years. We also provide our 1Ls with various resources. Among these resources is a comprehensive exam review with upper-division students who have performed exceptionally well in their particular subjects, the opportunity for each 1L to have an upper-division mentor, and small group lunches with each of the first-year professors.
1L Academic Support
The African proverb "it takes a village to raise a child" provides some insight and background regarding the 1L review sessions. A tradition of significant proportions, the upper level Kemet Chapter members take it upon themselves to academically support our 1Ls. We hold review sessions for our first years during the close of each semester. The review sessions are exclusively for the Kemet Chapter's first-years. They are slow-paced, thorough and adaptable to all sections of the first-year courses. The Kemet Chapter review sessions give our first-years an opportunity to ask the questions and pose the hypothetical scenarios they did not or could not in class. The review sessions present yet another opportunity for our first-years to utilize the safe space provided by the Kemet support system and to receive the encouragement and guidance they require. Further, throughout the year, Kemet Chapter also provides outlines for 1Ls to assist them while creating their own course outlines. We also offer other forms of support during the first-year exam phase to provide our first-years with the help they need to succeed here at NUSL.

Mentor/Mentee Program - Meet your match!
The Kemet Chapter’s Mentor/Mentee Program ensures that incoming 1Ls are welcomed with guidance, encouragement and a sense of community. Each student is paired with upper-level mentors before the semester begins, providing both academic and personal support from day one. This year, the program expands into a House System, honoring legendary Black leaders. Each of the four houses brings together 1Ls and upper-level students, sharing the work of mentorship and building community beyond one-to-one pairings. From course guidance and outlines to shared meals and events, the houses create lasting bonds that reflect BLSA’s mission: to uplift, empower and grow together.
