Intellectual Property Law Clinic

The Intellectual Property Law Clinic, an intellectual property clinic at Northeastern University School of Law, is here to help. Founded in 2014 to provide legal services to the Northeastern University “entrepreneurial ecosystem,” the clinic offers free assistance to any current or former Northeastern student, faculty or staff member. The clinic routinely provides trademark and copyright services and has a proven track record of success, most notably by protecting brand names and logos. And although not yet actively involved in providing patent assistance, the clinic can help protect trade secrets and advise on steps that may be needed to obtain patent protection. We work closely with Northeastern University’s Mosaic community and, as part of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office Law School Clinic Certification Program, we offer IP-related assistance to individuals and entities throughout Massachusetts who cannot otherwise afford legal services.

JD x Graduate Certificate in Privacy Law

The interdisciplinary JD x Graduate Certificate in Privacy Law encompasses a wide range of courses, including courses in data management and privacy, information ethics, internet law, marketing, consumer behavior and more. Through courses, co-ops, clinics and writing a substantial paper, your studies will be grounded in the context of law and layered with laser-focused knowledge, industry-informed observations and unique insights, both from your law professors and from faculty and colleagues across our global university.

Graduate Certificate in Intellectual Property Law

The Graduate Certificate in Intellectual Property Law focuses on trademark and copyright law. Students will learn how to identify and secure intellectual property rights, understand the relationship between intellectual property and media, and gain an understanding of issues like unfair competition, user-generated content and crowd-sourcing.

LLM with Concentration Intellectual Property and Innovation

Candidates for the LLM degree have the opportunity to concentrate in Intellectual Property and Innovation. Designed for lawyers with experience and/or interest in the ever-changing fields of technology and creativity, the concentration prepares students for a variety of practice areas (including operational advice, transactional work, litigation and policy) for clients ranging from start-up ventures to companies with global IP portfolios and inventors to government registries and regulators.

MLS Concentration in Intellectual Property Law

The MLS Intellectual Property Law concentration focuses on the legal aspects of creations of the mind, such as inventions; literary and artistic works; designs; and symbols, names and images used in commerce. Coursework in this concentration includes Identifying and Securing Intellectual Property Rights, and Intellectual Property and Media

Master of Science in Media Advocacy

The Master of Science (MS) in Media Advocacy enhances students’ abilities to lead and contribute to mission advancing efforts for a wide variety of organizations – from advocacy and lobbying organizations, trade and labor groups, and nonprofit entities, to strategic communication and government affairs departments. Created through a collaboration between the School of Journalism and School of Law, the degree uniquely combines foundations in governmental structures and the legal system with sophisticated training in the latest communication techniques. These include social media, web communications and videography, as well as data analytics and data-driven storytelling.
