Northeastern University Law and Policy Fellows Program
Northeastern University has launched a Law and Policy Fellowship — a non-funded, non-resident fellowship aimed at those with recent government service experience.
About the Program
Northeastern University’s School of Law and School of Public Policy and Urban Affairs at the College of Social Sciences and the Humanities are pleased to announce the creation of the Northeastern Law and Policy Fellows Program, specifically designed for those with recent government service experience who are at a transition point in their careers.
These non-funded, non-resident, one-year fellowships bring together leaders with experience in government service to build community and contribute to academic life at Northeastern. During the fellowship, fellows will have the opportunity to meet with students, faculty and staff, and participate in events, classes and meetings at the university. The program will also hold several meetings with the inaugural cohort, which are designed to foster camaraderie and mutual support as fellows explore career transitions. Because this is a non-resident fellowship, all aspects of the program will be run virtually.
Each fellow will be expected to:
- Deliver a lecture or participate in a panel discussion to highlight and reflect on their prior government service experience
- Visit or guest lecture in classes at Northeastern
- Consult about professional opportunities for Northeastern students and graduates
- Meet individually with interested Northeastern faculty, administrators and students
- Attend relevant events at Northeastern organized through the Law and Policy Fellowship
To apply
Eligibility:
Applicants who recently served in government positions within the United States, but are now at a moment of career transition, are eligible to apply.
Application requirements:
Applicants should submit a short personal statement (250-500 words) that articulates why this fellowship would be valuable to their career development and how it would contribute to the academic community at Northeastern. The applicant should also provide a resume/CV, writing sample and three references. It is expected that fellows will be at a moment of career transition when applying for the fellowship; however, they may remain in the program even after securing new employment.
Submit an application for the inaugural 2025-2026 fellowship here. Applications are due by Friday, July 18, 2025, and will be reviewed on a rolling basis. We encourage early applications for the limited number of spots, with fellows expected to start at the beginning of the fall term (September 2025).
